Tea and Coffee:
An Artistic Interpretation |
|
|
Teapots by Randall Au
 |
|
Eight juried artists plus some of our
regular artists used the inspiration of tea and coffee to create their
paintings, tea and coffee pots, mugs, quilts and mixed media collages.
The show opens on May 6 and the artists reception is May 8, 3 - 6pm, on
Second Saturday in Beacon, just in time for Mother’s Day.
Using paint, clay, tea bags, fabric,
paper and other materials, the artists have remembered a time of high
English tea parties and a time of taking civilized breaks. The fanciful
teapots and clothes made out of tea bags show the artists playful side.
The eight juried artists include Randall Au, Marianne Heigemeir, Martha
Levites, Alexis Lynch, Jennifer Scott, Herrat Sommerhoff, Tilly
Strauss, and Marlene Wiedenbuam. Paola Bari has brought in
marvelous teapots and Linda Hubbard photographed her Grandmothers
teapots. Marylin Price, Virginia Pizza and Tinya Seeger also have
mugs, cream and sugar bowls and teapots. Kimberly D'auria even
made a teapot hat!
The show was curated
by Rosalind Kennedy Lewis, glass artist and past president of the
Ossining Arts Council.

|
|
|

Alison
Shaw: From the Shore
For this show of recent work, Ms. Shaw is
presenting large-scale giclee color photographs taken at Martha’s Vineyard.
They showcase Ms. Shaw’s profound understanding of natural light. Often
using very long exposures, these lush, almost abstract images taken from the
shoreline are taken with traditional film cameras and using transparency or
slide film. The images shown here are faithful to the transparencies and are
not digitally enhanced or manipulated.
Ms. Shaw has exhibited her photographs in
one-woman shows at more than 15 galleries throughout the United States. Over
4,000 of her photographs are in corporate and private collections throughout
the U. S. and Europe. Several books have also been published of her
photographs. Her photography has appeared nationally in numerous newspapers
and magazines including The New York Times, Time, Smithsonian, Nikon World,
and Yankee magazine. Alison teaches photography workshops in Italy, Canada
and New England for Maine Photographic Workshops and Rocky Mountain School
of Photography.

Gloria Santoyo Ruenitz:
Found Words
RiverWinds Gallery is delighted to present
Latin photographer Gloria Santoyo Ruenitz, August 12 - September 6.
Her contrasting colors and found words make bold statements, and represents
the duality inside her caused by her double culture. She puts to good use
the concept of being resourceful; working with what is available. This is
something very common in Latin America, but not often done in the United
States, where there is so much and so much is discarded.
Growing up in Latin America, things like
color, music, family and religion were deeply woven into her own "life
weave". She finds herself constantly drawing links between her photographs,
found objects and words to the many layers of emotional and verbal
communication in her life while mirroring an experiential connection with
the lives of others. In many ways she is a "storyteller" letting her own
deep emotions come through
to the surface. She compares the way she was
brought up, the relationship to her family, her religious upbringing, her
ethnicity, her position in society, professionally and as a woman, to the
way her own child has been brought up in this country and her own life
today.

Mystical Florals
|
|
|
 |
|
Born and raised in Russia, Oleg brings
to his artwork an old-world richness and depth of sensibility. With a
palette that ranges from pastels to the darker hues, his mixed media
artwork incorporates layer upon layer of oil-based paints and acrylic
gels. To further enhance the textural quality of his paintings, Oleg
applies gossamer-thin rice paper and gold leaf onto the heavy-duty rough
canvas.
Oleg is also know for his large murals, which
can be found on walls, ceiling and floors in corporate, residential and
public settings around Manhattan. Oleg's paintings are owned by private
collectors and corporations throughout the U.S, Canada, Europe, Russia and
Israel.

Asian Ink Blot by John A Girouard |
| |
| RiverWinds Gallery, 172
Main Street, Beacon, NY, presents the amazing combination of hot glue
and crayons on canvas created by John A. Girouard. He has a patent
pending for the process that he calls Stained Plastic Art. He has
created a variety of strategies to regulate the intensity of the colors,
and to manipulate the form and texture in this new art medium. Broad
washes of color create a clear sense of fluidity. The depths of the
waves enhance the visual excitement.
 |
|
|
John’s medium captures light by shining
on and around the work. Light dances on each piece catching the waves and
ridges. Variations in light leave the viewer with as many different
sensations as there are illuminations. The dimensions created by the heat of
the glue and the layers of color are responsible for this play of light and
shadow. The longer you gaze at a piece, the more your eyes are tempted to
sweep across the work moving from on swirl to another in the passionate
movement of the piece. Digesting the work in its entirety is just as
pleasing as getting up close to explore the curls, swirls, twists and turns
the colors make across the canvas.
John is a Maine native and resides in
Center Ossipee, New Hampshire. His Maine roots have deeply influenced the
way he sees the world, his love of nature and the way he expresses himself
in his artwork. His inspiration lies in the endless possibilities of
creation.
