American Landscapes

August 23, 2007 - November 20, 2007

Artist Reception  Friday October 5th   5:30 - 7:30 pm

A. G. Edwards & Sons of Rhinebeck and RiverWinds Gallery of Beacon announce their new "American Landscapes" show. The artists have captured the essence of the American Landscape - its rivers and mountains, its rocky coasts and sandy shores, its plains and its farmland.  The paintings are by Peter Billman, Virginia Donovan, Robert Ferrucci and Alexis Lynch plus photographs by Robert Rodriguez, Jr., Mary Ann Glass, and Linda Hubbard.

The public is cordially invited to the view the artwork during office hours at AGEdwards.

The art may be purchased through RiverWinds Gallery, 845-838-2880.

Mountain Stream - giclee print 26 x 30

Evening Coming - giclee print 16 x 20

A Hudson Valley Plein Air Painter, Peter Billman captured the many moods, essence of place and richness of the Hudson valley and its environs. His paintings combine the style of the new Hudson River School with a contemporary appeal.

Peter passed away June 14, 2006, and his wife Nancy has had fine art giclee prints made from his original paintings. The prints are wonderful renditions of the colors and feel of the original paintings that he painted from his studio on the top floor of their beautiful bed and breakfast, the Goldsmith Dennison House. He had spectacular views of the Hudson River. His paintings show his appreciation of the river, the mountains, its nature. His paintings are in private collections in the US and Europe.

Robert Ferrucci’s paintings depict America’s land, barns, farms and the serenity of country living. Influenced by the vanishing open spaces, farms and barns of Hudson Valley and New England, Ferrucci translates the feeling and emotions that surround the subject, time and place. He captures the peace, serenity and simplicity mixed with strong landscapes, old homes, barns and faded images of fields and mountains. He combines soft quiet areas with a strong central image and often from a visually arresting high vantage point. In addition to these prints at AGEdwards, Robert has some new original paintings at RiverWinds September 8th through October 8th as he is the featured artist.

Valley Lookout - giclee print 22 x 22

Hazy, Hot Hudson - pastel, 12 x 9

Alexis Lynch’s sense of the Hudson River Valley’s beauty guides her in creating her paintings of the skies, mountain and the river. Her palette comes from nature and the softness of her recent paintings adds a dreamy quality, as if such a place could not really exist. A resident of Fishkill, New York, She took up painting in the 1990’s in watercolor, enjoying the freshness of the medium. Her Hudson River paintings in this show demonstrate her new talent in pastel and egg tempra.
Virginia Donovan has found a passion in painting she never anticipated. "Painting feeds my love of travel and vice versa. My sense of place deepens dramatically when I can immerse myself for a few hours, analyze what draws me to a particular spot and paint from the heart. I can feel the wind, recall the soft sweet smell of the grasses, remember the old man walking his dog as I treasure my paintings done en plein air" From Mohonk to marshlands to the Hudson River, she has focused on the drama of late day light, modulation of color in shadows, as well as the mystery of fog and how it plays with the light.

Horse Pond - oil, 8 x 10

Breakneck Ridge - photograph 26 x 20

Photographer Robert Rodriguez, Jr. loves to hike up mountains and watch the setting sun or the calmness of the waters at early morning. His photographic images capture the feeling of experiencing something that is unique and wondrous in nature. His images of rare and unique moments when light and land combine in a magical way and the emerging colors are stunning.

Living, hiking and photographing in the beautiful Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks and Maine has given Robert a broad palette of natural colors and wonders.

Mary Ann Glass infrared photographs add a quality of surreal to the American Landscape. Mary Ann brings an inquiring, admiring eye to the world’s odd and beautiful things. Her work has been described as being spiritual and sensual, serious and elegant. This show features infrareds of the river, mountains, and the midwest, a haunting images of a land we know well but now seen through different eyes.

Vanderbilt Autumn - photograph 16 x 20

Linda T. Hubbard’s photographs take you to the New England coast with its rocky shores and lighthouses. From the early light of dawn on Martha’s Vineyard to Point Judith, Rhode Island, man’s and nature’s architecture intermingle. Linda adds a human element into her camera’s viewfinder, capturing a bit of human nature into the landscape.

And in the Hudson Valley, come sit at the bench at Vanderbilt on an Autumn day or take a stroll by the gazebo in Poet’s Walk.

ColorScapes

May 22, 2007 - August 31, 2007

A. G. Edwards & Sons of Rhinebeck and RiverWinds Gallery of Beacon announce their new photography, painting and silk show -- "ColorScapes" --at the AGEdwards offices in Rhinebeck. Several artists used their talents in different ways than they normally do, transforming art forms to rich and vibrant colors. Photographer Alison Shaw captured the colors of an artist’s palette, Robert Rodriguez the colors of the sun in nature, Mary Ann Glass the colors of rust, and Linda Hubbard the colors of summer. Karl LaLonde painted the colors of the SouthWest and Kelly McIntyre dyed silk in color waves. This is a fun show of vibrant hues found in the world around us. The art may be purchased through RiverWinds Gallery, 845-838-2880.

Photographer Alison Shaw is a renown photographer from Martha’s Vineyard. She has a profound understanding of natural light. She is known for using very long exposures to obtain lush, almost abstract images taken from the shoreline. But the images in this show are from visits to artist studios. Their palettes, paint, brushes and knives have become art in themselves. And the colors and detail seem like you can almost feel the paint. Ms. Shaw has exhibited her photographs in one-woman shows at more than 15 galleries throughout the United States. Over 4,000 of her photographs are in corporate and private collections throughout the U. S. and Europe. Several books have also been published of her photographs. Her photography has appeared nationally in numerous newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, Time, Smithsonian, Nikon World, and Yankee magazine. Alison teaches photography workshops in Italy, Canada and New England for Maine Photographic Workshops and Rocky Mountain School of Photography.

Known in the music world as a musical arranger and producer, Robert Rodriguez has turned his talents toward photography. He has created photographic images that capture the feeling of experiencing something that is unique and wondrous in nature. His images of rare and unique moments when light and land combine in a magical way and the emerging colors are stunning. Living and photographing the in the beautiful Hudson Valley and in Maine has given Robert a broad palette of natural colors and wonders.

Hudson Valley Photographer Linda T. Hubbard has traveled to Australia, New Zealand, England and Nantucket to capture the colors of summer. Beach umbrellas, boats, flags, reflections in water...all welcome the wonderful hues of lazy beach days. Linda is well known for capturing the Hudson Valley, so this is different subject matter for her camera and simply refreshing for the hot days ahead.

A wedding photographer Mary Ann Glass took her camera to a junk yard and captured the colors of rust, old doors, car windows and old hinges. Known for capturing the emotion of brides or the velvet feel of a rose, Mary Ann turned her lens on finding colors hidden in objects that most would never see. The result is stunning images of muted colors and art forms.

Fiber Artist Kelly (Makara) McIntyre hand dyed silk in waves of color and framed them. The effect is amazing and one can fine images within the many colors of the silk. Known for her weaving scarves and shawls and hand dying of yarn of marvelous colors, framed art is very different for her and the effect is stunning. Photographer Karl LaLonde put down his camera and picked up paint brushes to give us vivid Southwest colors of Indians, bears and saddles. The effect is just fun and joyful. The brilliant colors and simplistic images make one smile.
