Artist Reception at Wells Fargo Advisors, Montgomery Row, 2nd Floor, Rhinebeck, NY, Saturday June 19, 5-7 p.m.

Talk by Noted Photographers Eric Lindbloom and Dan McCormack at 6 pm.

Wells Fargo Advisors, Rhinebeck and RiverWinds Gallery open their new show featuring a group of advanced photographers who meet once a month at the Photography Critique Seminar at the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie. Led by Dan McCormack and Eric Lindbloom, the seminar has been meeting, at various locations, for almost 30 years. The current participants whose work will be featured in the show are: Bill Bogle, Jr, Angelo Dounoucos, Jerry Freedner, Mary Ann Glass, Eric Lindbloom, Dan McCormack, Michael Sibilia and Ian Wickstead.

Angelo Dounoucos

Dan McCormack began the advanced seminar in Woodstock in late 1977. A few years later Eric Lindbloom joined as co-leader, and after a few changes in location, the seminar returned to Poughkeepsie in the early 1990s, to the Barrett Art Center.

Michael Sibilia

“We have a serious group of photographers participating in our monthly sessions,” says Dan McCormack. “The goal of the seminar is, through thoughtful and extended feedback, to help a mature photographer advance in her or his self-chosen project(s) in progress. “
The seminar meets each month and each photographer brings a body of recent work for the critique. “Discussions are lively but positive, “ says Eric Lindbloom. “Photography can be a solitary occupation. I think we as photographers, in order to grow, need to show our work to colleagues and get comments and feedback. It can be difficult to assess your own work – you are too close to it sometimes – and others can offer insight on what you have accomplished and what the next step might be.”

January - April Show

"Bannerman's Island - A Vanishing Treasure"

January 26 - April 26, 2010

Artist Reception March 26,  4 – 6pm with a talk by Neil Caplan at 5pm (Executive Director of the Bannerman Castle Trust Fund)

Bannerman's from the Show - M Sibilia

Wells Fargo Advisors of Rhinebeck and RiverWinds Gallery of Beacon announce – “Bannerman’s Island – A Vanishing Treasure”, featuring photographers Mary Ann Glass, Linda T. Hubbard, Alexis Lynch, Greg Martin,  Robert Rodriguez, Jr  and Michael Sibilia, and  painters  E. Virginia Donovan and Will Kefauver. Each artist has captured different views of Bannerman’s Island, the family residence and the vanishing castle.  The winter weather has caused major portions of the castle to collapse, so many of these images can never be seen again. Only a portion of the south wall and the west wall remain in the Castle's main structure.

Bannerman's Island today - Linda T. Hubbard

This is how the castle looks as of mid February 2010 - a truly vanishing treasure.

An artist's reception will be held at Wells Fargo on Friday March 26 from 4 - 6pm. The Wells Fargo office is located on the 2nd floor of Montgomery Row in downtown Rhinebeck.  The art may be purchased through RiverWinds Gallery, 845-838-2880.  A portion of sales will go to the Bannerman’s Castle Trust Fund, Inc. which is dedicated to preserving and protecting Bannerman Island for the public to experience as an educational, cultural, historical and recreational facility for promoting heritage tourism.

Each of the artists has their own unique style.  Michael Sibilia has been practicing the art of photography for over thirty years. Living in the Hudson Valley and working as a freelance photojournalist gives him an opportunity to experience both the scenery and the diversity of the human spirit that exists all around us. “There is nothing more fulfilling to me than seeing the art in everyday places and people”.  His large 44 x 65 prints of Bannerman’s island and the sky above are magnificent.

Robert Rodriguez, Jr., is an award winning professional landscape photographer specializing in landscapes of the Hudson Valley.  He is also an instructor giving classes in photography, LightRoom and printing.  His Bannerman Castle images at sunset and from the shore are simply beautiful.

Linda T. Hubbard is a photographer known throughout the Hudson River Valley and beyond. A tireless promoter of the arts in the Hudson Valley, Linda is also a champion for enjoying the beauty of this river and its unique characteristics.  Her views from a helicopter give a perspective of the whole island and the system of docks that had been built around the island for the ships to come in and unload their wares.

Mary Ann Glass’s infrared photographs and Polaroid transfers capture the mystery and beauty of a lost times in the residence and of the castle.  She brings an inquiring, admiring eye to the world’s odd and beautiful things. Her work has been described as being spiritual and sensual, serious and elegant.

Alexis Lynch’s sense of the Hudson River Valley’s beauty guides her in creating her paintings of the skies, mountain and the river.  Her photographs of the Illumination of Bannerman’s castle capture this unique moment in the history of the castle.

Greg Martin, throughout his travels and around the Hudson Valley, captures incredible vistas by using a large format camera. This type of camera is completely mechanical and has basically the same design as cameras from the 19th century.

Will Kefauver returned to painting after many years as an illustrator, then graphic designer, then art director and executive in the publishing industry. A Westchester resident, he has been drawn to the beauty of the Hudson River and Bannerman’s Island.

E. Virginia Palen Donovan, a life-long resident of the Hudson Valley, is intent on working to promote a public interest in the rich heritage of the area and is on the board of the Bannerman’s Castle Trust Fund.  For this show, Virginia is painted the castle in oil with the use of a knife to create a sense of movement of the river.
